Innovative Technology for the Control of Air Pollution at Waste-to-energy Plants
نویسنده
چکیده
Two innovative control technologies for air pollution from the combustion of municipal solid waste (MSW) are discussed. The system concepts of Selective Cat alytic Reduction (SCR) and the Electron Beam (E Beam) process are presented, along with the extent of demonstrated experience. Estimated capital and op erating costs are calculated for each system for oper ation on a 1000 tons/day MSW mass-fired stoker / boiler. Recent test results are presented for the E-Beam process for NOx, S02' and CO removal. In addition, an empirical model for NOx and S02 removal by the E-Beam process is applied to flue gas compositions typical from the combustion of MSW.

Economic Evaluation of Zinc Recovery from Air Pollution Control Residues of European Waste to Energy Plants
SUMMARY: In Europe almost 80 million tons of waste are annually combusted in Waste-to-Energy plants. Solid residues generated thereby contain altogether about 69,000 t/a of Zn, of which more than 50 % accumulates in air pollution control (APC) residues. Recent research activities aiming at Zn recovery from APC residues resulted in a large scale Zn recovery plant at a Swiss waste incinerator. By...

The present study applies the model of American Meteorological Society-Environmental Protection Agency Regulatory Model (AERMOD) to investigate NO2 emissions from Besat thermal power plant, which is fuelled by natural gas to function. Results indicate that the simulated concentration of NO2 based on AERMOD, does not exceed NO2 concentration limit, set by the Iranian Ambient Air Quality Standard...

Municipal solid waste (MSW) remains a major problem in modern societies, even though the significant efforts to prevent, reduce, reuse and recycle. At present, municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) in waste-to-energy (WtE) plants is one of the main management options in most of the developed countries. The technology for recovering energy from MSW has evolved over the years and now sophisti...
متن کاملLife-cycle-assessment of the historical development of air pollution control and energy recovery in waste incineration.
Incineration of municipal solid waste is a debated waste management technology. In some countries it is the main waste management option whereas in other countries it has been disregarded. The main discussion point on waste incineration is the release of air emissions from the combustion of the waste, but also the energy recovery efficiency has a large importance. The historical development of ...
